“Asylum seeking placements are not the easiest given the cultural and language barriers. However, Nina’s attitude has always been positive and uplifting. She has a way of understanding their needs, without any judgement. She understands that there may be cultural differences that are unfamiliar or difficult, but she has not let any differences stand in her way of providing excellent care.” Tahmina, Social Worker
Nina and Chris were able to make children immediately feel a sense of relief and comfort. The small things they provide in their home, for example halal meat or prayer mats have made a huge difference to how well they settle. They also ensure that young people are completely ready to move on when they reach 18, the young person’s needs are always met until they feel that young person is ready to move onto adulthood, they are fully committed to the young person until they themselves are ready.
It was a really nice surprise to be nominated and win the award. We foster because we can give children love, stability, confidence, and ability to enjoy life. Fostering is very rewarding to us, we can give children experiences that they never have experienced before, such as going on holidays and to restaurants, seeing their face light up is just incredible. These children have been through their life with no opportunities, they may have suffered physical or sexual abuse and violence, it is nice to be able to give young people opportunities and live in a household with no animosity. Calon Cymru support us all the way and nothing is too much trouble for them.
We would like to congratulate Nina and Chris on their award and thank them for all their hard work and dedication to our young people.
