Spooky Season is upon us and we can’t wait to get stuck into all of the Halloween fun. From freaky fancy dress to ghastly games and creepy crafts we are gearing up for an excitingly eerie All Hallows Eve.
Here are some of our fiendish favourites for Halloween fun!
We had to start with this Halloween classic, it simply wouldn’t be Halloween without it. Take it in turns to see who can get the most in a minute or pit little monster against little monster in a ‘versus challenge’.
There are endless options for a scavenger hunt making this a great activity for children of all ages or to differentiate for additional needs. Here are some of our favourite options.
Find the pumpkins – Think easter egg hunt using pumpkin toys or even print out some pumpkin pictures. Hide as many as you can around the house and garden. Most pumpkins wins.
Complete the list – Each child is given a list of spooky objects to find around the house. Fastest to complete the list wins.
For children who can’t write or use a pen try giving them a camera to take snaps of their finds
Get your very best Halloween playlist on the go and entertain the kids by turning some classic party fun into ghoulish games. Get moving (or not) to Ghostbusters for a game of musical monsters (statues) or Monster Mash your way through each layer of a present packed with petrifying prizes.
Another Halloween classic that you just can’t miss, Pumpkin carving is a Halloween staple. Give your pumpkin the scariest or funniest face or turn it into one of your favourite characters and get those creative juices flowing.
Don’t fancy the mess of carving or getting creative with little fingers? Why not paint your best spooky faces and characters on the pumpkin instead?
Simple to do but very fun and effective, Ghostly handprints are great to do with smaller children. On a piece of white paper draw around your hands, cut around the handprint shape (grown ups should take the lead with smaller children), then design the ghostly features for a spooky ghost face.
Why not make lots of different ghosts and then connect them with some string for a ghostly garland.
Whether you bake it yourself from scratch or buy ready made cupcakes and skip straight to the good bit you can’t go wrong with Halloween cake decoration and the best bit, you get to eat it all at the end. Use different colour icing to turn your cupcakes into pumpkins, monsters, ghosts and all manner of spooky characters.
This one might be a bit tricky for younger children but with a little bit of help this messy play can be a lot of fun.
Simply grab some pretzel sticks (Matchmakers would also work if you don’t like pretzels) and arrange them in a star/firework shape.
Melt some chocolate in a bowl then use a spoon to drizzle chocolate over the sticks in a spider web pattern. (You could even dip the pretzel stick in the chocolate before starting). Make sure to use plenty of chocolate to make sure your spider webs don’t break to easily.
When you are happy with your spider web pattern leave them to dry. Once the chocolate has hardened your spider webs are ready to tuck into.
If you have a go at any of our Halloween ideas we would love to see them. Send your us photos to feature in our Gruesome Gallery!
