Calon Cymru sponsors Porth Harlequins player Davon Davies

Calon Cymru is proud to provide player sponsorship to Porth Harlequins RFC senior player Davon Davies.

Davon, aged 19 lives in a fostering household, his parents Mel and Mike are foster carers with Calon Cymru, something they decided to do after Davon suggested finding out more information about fostering three years ago. When speaking about why they decided to become foster carers, Mel said:

“Davon had a friend in foster placement and suggested we look into it. We enjoy spending time with children and would always have his friends around for tea, or go on days out, and as he grew up those things became less. We have lots of love to give and felt we could provide a loving, stable home to children who needed one, so that’s when we decided to enquire about fostering. Davon embraces the role of ‘big brother’ to the children that come into our home, and we couldn’t be prouder.”

Davon has been playing rugby since the age of 6 and plays in the back row. He is passionate about the sport and shares his stories with “anyone that will listen”. Porth Harlequins are a fantastic community club based in Llwyncelyn. Like much of the South Wales valleys, the club has a strong sense of camaraderie and community spirit.

The Quins have a rich history in Welsh rugby and currently play in Division 1 East Central of the WRU league. This is the highest position in the club's history, and something they have been able to maintain for several seasons.

At Calon Cymru Fostering, we take pride in offering support to our community, which includes our young people, foster carers and their families, and our dedicated staff. One of the ways we demonstrate our commitment to our community is through initiatives like sponsorships. With our sponsorship, Davon can continue to play for the Quins, enabling him to hone his rugby skills, build lasting friendships, and gain invaluable experiences both on and off the field.
