The Decade Club 2024

On September 12th, Calon Cymru hosted the second annual Decade Club event at The Towers Hotel and Spa in Swansea.

Members of The Decade Club are Calon Cymru foster carers who have been supporting vulnerable children and young people across South and West Wales for 10 years and over. The event's purpose is to bring The Decade Club members together to celebrate their length of service and achievements over the years.

Upon arrival at the hotel, the foster carers walked into the beautifully decorated function room, where they found their seats and were greeted with a favour bag, which included heart chocolates and their Decade Club pins designed by Caerphilly based company Lush ‘n’ Cwtches.

The event started with our Regional Operations Director, Sharon Cavaliere welcoming everyone, and thanking them for their service, she said:

“If we counted how many children you’ve helped collectively, it would be in the thousands. Your impact has been immeasurable, so today is all about celebrating you, and bringing you here is a way of us thanking you for your loyalty”

The new members of the Decade Club, and those who were unable to attend last years event were then called to the front for a photo opportunity, whilst the new members were presented with scrolls.

The final presentation was to Jill and Steve Tarling, who were celebrating their 10 year anniversary on that very day.

They cut one of our two cakes, baked by one of our talented panel members, SJ.

Claire Stonier, Director, and Jacqui Reese, Support Services Manager, were then acknowledged for their length of service, both 22 years, as they cut the second of our two stunning cakes.

With the formalities out of the way, we indulged in a three course meal, swapped lots of stories, and laughed a lot. We are already looking ahead to next years event, and look forward to welcoming new members of the Decade Club.
