Welcome to the team, Jade!

We are pleased to introduce a new Supervising Social Worker to the Carmarthen office. Welcome, Jade.

Would you like to get to know Jade better? Good, because we asked Jade to tell us a little bit about herself, her background, and her career. Here is what she had to say.

“I’m Jade, a newly appointed Supervising Social Worker based in Carmarthen. Let me tell you a bit about myself…

My journey into Social Work began as a contact worker where my role was to supervise and write reports about the contact I had observed between children and their parents. This role sparked my interest in becoming a Social Worker and after qualifying in 2011, my social work experience has been varied.

I initially worked in a residential assessment unit for children and their parents, undertaking parenting assessments for a period. After this, I was lucky enough to successfully be accepted onto a graduate internship for Cafcass, England, Commissioning and Partnerships. Here I was part of a research project that investigated the outcomes of contact (whether supervised, supported, or indirect) between children and their fathers who were ordered by the court to attend a Domestic Violence Perpetrator Programme.

I then decided to have a complete lifestyle change and moved from East London to West Wales in 2014, where I joined the childcare assessment team for the Local Authority and then progressed into fostering, an area I feel especially passionate about.

The next 8 years were the foundation of my experience in fostering for the Local Authority where I continued to develop my knowledge within the fostering sector. I worked as a Supervising Social Worker, supporting and assessing foster carers and kinship carers, and as a Senior Social Worker managing Supervising Social Workers, duty and support workers. Both roles I thoroughly enjoyed; however I was ready for a change and so I have most recently joined Calon Cymru as a Supervising Social Worker in Carmarthen.

This role was an opportunity not to be missed, I had chosen to work for Calon Cymru Fostering as I was interested in being part of an organisation that invests in foster carers allowing them to deliver the highest level of care and support that promotes positive outcomes for the children that become cared for.

I knew that the ethos of Calon Cymru was well matched to my way of working with children who have experienced trauma by going above and beyond to support foster carers to have successful and stable placements that would improve the life chances for children looked after.

I feel both delighted and proud to have the opportunity to work for an organisation that invests in children, foster carers and staff.

Having only been appointed in July 2024 I already feel supported and guided and know that my skills and knowledge are going to be developed and refined so that I may be able to support children and their carers in the best way possible to achieve positive outcomes and a lifelong footprint in children’s lives. I am looking forward to working alongside staff and foster carers to continue ensuring that Calon Cymru Fostering delivers the best possible outcomes for children.
