Our dedicated TLP foster carers are equipped with extensive training and resources to assist children and young people facing significant challenges. Life as a TLP carer can be challenging, but the rewards are endless.
The children and young people in our TLP programme have often experienced trauma and abuse, which may result in challenging behaviours. Our resilient team of foster carers play a vital role in helping these young people heal their emotional scars and move forward in their lives.
“These children have gone through a lot and when you see they’re happy and enjoying themselves, along with the progress they’ve made, it makes it worth it” – Calon Cymru TLP foster carers, Tania & Ed
Each Therapeutically Led Placement is supported by a personalised programme designed to address the unique needs of the child, young person, and fostering family. This approach ensures the service is adaptable, meaning that any necessary changes are implemented, leading to positive results for the children and young people in our care.
At Calon Cymru, we are committed to supporting you throughout your entire fostering journey. We recognise there are challenges associated with becoming a TLP foster carer, so offer extensive assistance and tailored training to our team of TLP foster carers.
Our TLP foster carers and children also have access to Studio 3, who provide a range of clinical and coaching services, which focus on the Low Arousal Approach. The work that Studio 3 do is Trauma Informed, with a focus on compassion and empathy, as opposed to restraint and controls.
As a Calon Cymru foster carer, you’ll be assigned your own Supervising Social Worker. The child or young person in your care will also be paired with an Individual Worker. Additionally, Calon Cymru hosts peer support groups, where our carers are regularly invited, for an opportunity to connect with each other, share experiences and offer support.
In addition to this, TLP foster carers also benefit from an increased fostering allowance, and an enhanced paid respite allowance.
If you’re interested in joining our specialised team of TLP foster carers, you’re already on the right path. Certain skills are particularly beneficial when taking on this type of fostering. Experience in dealing with challenging behaviour can be particularly useful, as well as a good sense of humour, being resilient and adaptable, as well as the ability to stay calm during challenging situations.
We have been providing Therapeutically Led Placements for several years, and have seen first hand the remarkable outcomes they can have on children and young people, as well as the long lasting, positive impact on our team of foster carers.
