Children's Mental Health Week 2025 Know Yourself, Grow Yourself (800 X 600 Px)

Children's Mental Health Week 2025: Know Yourself, Grow Yourself

This year Children's Mental Health Week 2025 explores the theme "Know Yourself, Grow Yourself", encouraging children and young people to explore their identities, understand their feelings, and empower themselves through self-awareness.

Why Self-Awareness Matters

When children understand their emotions, strengths, and weaknesses, they can find it easier to work through challenges and build resilience. Understanding these things about themselves can lead to improved relationships, better decision-making, and a sense of self-worth.

Tips for Foster Carers: Supporting Self-Discovery

Encourage Open Conversations

Create a safe space for children to express themselves and keep an open dialogue. This will help them be open and explain their emotions. Asking open-ended questions that require more than a yes or no answer can encourage them to share.

Introduce Mindfulness

Mindfulness exercises, like deep breathing or guided meditation, can help children become more in tune with their emotions. They can also reduce anxiety and improve focus.

Get creative

Art, music, and writing can be support self-discovery. Encouraging children to express themselves through creativity can give the opportunity to explore in a more relaxed manner.

Set Goals Together

Help children set personal goals that reflect their interests and ambitions. This allows them to develop a sense of achievement and encourages them to think about their future and what they want to achieve.

Celebrate Uniqueness

Recognise and celebrate the individual strengths and qualities of each child. Affirmation and recognition can help build their confidence and encourage them to embrace their identities.

By encouraging our children and young people to understand themselves, we can help them become stronger and more confident. Every bit of support matters, and together, we can help our children thrive!
