Meet the team - Michelle Crane, Senior Administrator

She's the driving force behind our incredible admin team making sure everything is running smoothly day to day as well as pulling together special events to celebrate our wonderful foster carers.

Michelle spent some time telling us what she does and helping us get to know her better.

Which office do you work for?

Based in Cardiff office but manage admin team who provide admin support for both Cardiff and Carmarthen office

When did you start working for Calon Cymru?

I joined the Calon team in 2010

What made you want to work in foster care?

Having previously worked in a corporate world I wanted to work for an organisation where I felt the work being done would make a difference to real people.

What do you do at Calon Cymru?

I am the office manager/senior administrator – I look after the admin team which are based in Cardiff.

We deal mostly with the carers, everything from taking telephone calls from someone interested in becoming a foster carer, all the way through the fostering journey including working with the assessor to process checks, organising panels, carer training, annual reviews.

We also cover all of the general admin duties – catering, post, event organising etc.

What part of your job do you like best?

I love the people I work with, and I love that I know the work we do goes some way towards helping the children and young people in our care.

I also really enjoy the extra tasks that I get involved in like event planning for Decade club, coffee mornings etc.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself or something people might not know about you

I took part in a charity Tandem skydive to raise funds for the Cardiff and Vale Breast Centre. I also enjoy baking and decorating cakes in my spare time and have made many for staff members and various Calon Events – I’m not sure either of those are particularly interesting though!

Why would you recommend working with Calon Cymru Fostering?

I have worked with Pathway care/Calon for a long time now, and whilst there have been many changes over time, we have always remained an Agency that offers full support to the carers any time of the day or night so that the carers can fully support the children and young people in their care. I am proud to work for the Agency and proud of the work we do.

If you could give advice to someone interested in becoming a foster carer, what would it be?

Think hard and long about it... whilst it’s a role that has many challenges, the rewards can be limitless.
