Some of you may already be familiar with Tracey, in fact, if you joined us in the last two years it is likely that Tracey was the very first person you spoke to after deciding to become a foster carer. As a Fostering Advisor, she makes sure that anyone interested in fostering with us meets the requirements and talks through their interest and options to guide them through the start of their journey. Tracey joined the Calon Cymru team in 2022 but this sector is not new to her having spent over 6 and half years bringing her knowledge and dedication to recruiting the best foster carers to our cohort.
We spoke to Tracey to find out more about her and her role.
I am based at the Cardiff office but cover enquiries for both sites.
My previous agency was acquired by Calon Cymru Fostering in 2022, so I have been with Calon Cymru for just over 2 years. I have been working within this sector for over 6 and a half years.
I have a niece and nephew with autism and was Chairperson of the PTA for their school. During the time I spent there, I spent time with carers, teachers and parents and realised that I wanted to work within the care sector and made a change from banking to foster care!
I work in recruitment and call every person who makes an enquiry with Calon Cymru over both sites. When I call them, I ask them why they want to foster, and ask questions about them and their family. These calls often go on for over an hour, listening to all that they can offer a child.
I really enjoy building a rapport with a prospective carer and learning about their life experiences
My day involves talking from 9 to 5! I keep in contact with Barrie Lewis regarding home visits and Lynsey and Ayesha regarding events taking place.
I always encourage prospective carers to call if they have any questions or queries, so often take calls from them too.
Calon Cymru Fostering is full of lovely caring people who are always there to help and support. I felt really welcome when I started with Calon Cymru and would encourage anyone who wanted a career in fostering to get in touch with them.
If it is something you really want to do, persevere! The application process can take time but helping a child/children who need a safe, caring and supportive home is more than worth the wait. It is such a rewarding role, and you are never alone on your journey, you will always be well supported.

Sian joined the team in January as our new Deputy Operations Manager. Since then, she has made a wonderful impression on all staff and carers, regularly attending support groups and chairing our Parent and Child placement meetings. We got together with Sian to ask her a few questions and get to know her a little better, here’s what she had to say.
Meet Supervising Social Worker, Nicola Wilcox, or as we all know her Nic. She's not new to the world of fostering having grown up in a fostering family and then spending time in the fostering team at the local authority. She also spent a number of years working as a teacher which only goes to show her passion for supporting children to have the best lives and achieve happy, healthy futures.
Since 2022 Rebecca has been supporting Calon Cymru foster carers and her background means that she has years of experience caring for people who needed support from others. Seeing the difference foster carers within her family have made inspired her to make her career in the foster care industry. We spoke to Rebecca to learn some more about her life and career.
